We are advertising a post for Healthcare assistant/Therapy assistant within the South Lakes Rapid Response and Virtual Ward team. This role offers an opportunity to develop and build on your existing skill set within the community healthcare sector.

We provide a 2‑hour community response mandate across the South Lakes locality. The team supports medical crises to prevent hospital admission and provides a safe alternative to hospital for patients through community‑based acute health and care delivery, including safe discharge and rehabilitation towards independence.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Healthcare/therapy assistant, you will work closely under guidance from a multidisciplinary team of Medics, consultant practitioners, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Assistant Practitioners, and other Therapy Assistants, supporting the implementation of delegated interventions across nursing and therapy and activities of daily living. Examples of duties include venepuncture (blood sampling), taking clinical observations, fitting equipment, and supporting administration of medications. Your work will be essential and rewarding as you support our frail population to remain in their own homes. You will receive full training and support from an experienced multidisciplinary team.

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital – as well as community health premises across the Morecambe Bay area. Services offered include Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, consultant‑led services, Urgent Treatment Centres, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery, and local outreach services.

Person Specification

  • Level 3 Care Certificate or equivalent experience/training, or willingness and ability to complete the Level 3 Care Certificate within 3 months of starting.
  • European computer driving licence or equivalent IT qualification. Ability to use a range of IT/computer applications.
  • Experience working in a team.
  • Experience providing care to adults.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and other IT applications.
  • Experience working as a health care or therapy assistant.
  • Experience working with people who have dementia.
  • Experience working with people who are unwell.
  • Experience working within a community health or social care service.
  • Experience working with vulnerable people.
