An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult SLT Service, delivering a mixed caseload across Community Services and Head and Neck and Voice pathways. The post holder will provide specialist input for individuals with head and neck cancer, voice disorders, and related conditions, while also managing a broader community caseload across Morecambe Bay. This role requires flexibility, strong clinical reasoning, and the ability to work autonomously across different care pathways.
Main duties of the job:
- Independently assess, diagnose, and manage adults with speech, language, voice, and swallowing difficulties across the Community and Head, Neck and Voice pathways.
- Provide specialist input for patients with head and neck cancer, voice disorders, and complex communication needs, within agreed competencies.
- Manage defined caseloads, prioritising clinical need and service demands.
- Deliver evidence‑based interventions in a range of settings, including patient’s homes, community venues and outpatient clinics.
- Use a range of delivery methods, including face‑to‑face, telephone and video consultations, in line with Trust policy.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary teams, contributing to care planning and service delivery.
- Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement activities.
- Support and supervise Band 5 SLTs, students, and support staff as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with Trust and professional standards.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Registered with HPC.
- On‑going membership with the RCSLT.
- Has dysphagia training competency that is recognised in the UK.
- Membership of specialist interest groups.
Experience:
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Experience of working in a wide range of settings including acute hospitals, community hospitals, clinics and patients’ homes.
