The opportunity is for Health Care Assistants to join Millom Community Hospital. 1 full-time post at 37.5 hours per week. The Band 3 position primarily covers the ward, with occasional district support. Applicants should ideally have experience in a health care setting, including nursing home experience. The trust operates on an internal rotation basis with various shift times:

  • Early 07:00–15:00
  • Lates 12:00–20:00, 15:00–20:00
  • Nights 19:30–07:30, 7 days per week including weekends
  • District nursing shifts are 08:30–16:30, 7 days per week

Support and training are provided to build on existing skills.

Main duties of the job:

  • Take direction from the nurse in charge.
  • Provide a high standard of care to in-patients and patients in the community.
  • Work as part of the team, supporting colleagues and maintaining flexible working relationships.
  • Support in dealing with any emergency situation.

Working for our organisation:

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal — as well as community facilities including Millom Hospital, GP Practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and consultant-led services. WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and services for non-life-threatening conditions. All three hospitals offer planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, plus local outreach services and diagnostics in community settings across Morecambe Bay. Our Community Service for adults is provided in patients’ homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices and community hospitals. Our aim is to help people remain independent, improve their health and manage conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Take instruction and guidance from the nurse in charge.
  • Deliver a high standard of personal care to patients.
  • Keep up to date with training and learning.
  • Work efficiently as a team member.
  • Be respectful of patients, MDT members and colleagues.

Person specification:

  • Basic nursing care skills and experience
  • Knowledge of Millom Hospital as a service
  • Care Certificate
  • Experience in a health care setting
  • Experience with End of Life patient care
  • willingness to complete Care Certificate
