Job overview:

Lancaster District Nurses has an exciting opportunity to recruit to a permanent 22.5 hour post per week. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and highly motivated staff nurse, who is excited to work in an evolving district nursing service. The successful applicant will be committed to working closely with health and social care colleagues to provide high-quality care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions in the community setting. This role includes working flexibly over 7 days, including weekends and evening shifts. Applications from student nurses due to qualify and newly qualified staff nurses are welcomed.

Main duties of the job:

  • Excellent communication skills are required as you will be undertaking complex nursing assessments and developing and delivering programmes of care for patients and carers.
  • The district nurses work a 24hr service, and there is an expectation that you may be required to support this to ensure service delivery.
  • You will need to work collaboratively with other professionals, voluntary sector and informal carers to promote excellent care to patients in their own homes and community settings.
  • You will be joining an enthusiastic and motivated team who are friendly and approachable.
  • Staff development is high on our agenda, and we want to develop all staff to the highest standard.
  • Staff will have access to regular clinical supervision, training and Occupational Health services.
  • A full UK driving license is required to carry out this role.

Working for our organisation:

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice and support.

Person specification:

  • Registered Nurse (on the relevant part of the register for the post)
  • Mentoring and assessing qualification or working towards or equivalent
  • Post registration clinical course appropriate to area or willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience and Skills:

  • Evidence of professional and personal development via a portfolio
  • Experience of establishing effective communication
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of implementing change
  • Previous experience within designated area
  • Experience of mentoring and assessing members of the team
