Job overview

The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service has secured funding until March 2027 to continue running a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including pulmonary rehabilitation and specialist home rehabilitation and support for people with respiratory disease living with high symptom burden who are at high risk of deterioration and urgent care use.

Main duties of the job

  • Phone patients to discuss and explain the pulmonary rehabilitation programme and arrange appointments.
  • Deal with patients in a kind, respectful and sensitive manner when they contact the team, including those who are breathless and in distress.
  • Work with the clinical team to prepare and replenish assessment and class paperwork.
  • Scan clinical paperwork onto the EMIS web clinical system.
  • Order supplies.
  • Attend meetings and support minute taking as required.

Person specification

  • Knowledge
  • 3 GCSE grades C or above, including English Language, or equivalent experience.
  • NVQ level 3 in administration or equivalent qualification, or relevant proven experience.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care and the delivery of high quality service.
  • Prior experience working with EMIS & UHMB Web Systems.

Experience

  • Experience of computer based information systems in an office environment.
  • Ability with Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience of minute taking.
  • Experience with working with NHS patient information systems.
  • Experience working in a patient‑facing capacity within the NHS.

Skills

  • Flexibility – demonstrating the ability to respond positively to change.
  • Ability to travel independently to other bases across Morecambe Bay.

The Community Respiratory Team has three main offices in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow and provides care across Morecambe Bay.

The team operates from the three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—plus community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

Job details

Contract: Fixed term, 9 months (Funding until 31st March 2027). The contract length may shorten depending on start date.

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week). Flexible but to be worked between Barrow and Kendal office.

Band: 3. Salary is based on the Agenda For Change pay scale.
