An exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident Clinical Support Worker to join the POA team at FHG on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave.

Work in support of and under the direction of a Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse, providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse (RN). Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records. Perform relevant clinical skills: Phlebotomy / ECG.

Main duties of the job:

  • Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the wellbeing of patients.
  • Assist the RN’s in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritise such care.
  • Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.
  • Determine the comfort of patients by talking and listening to them and building up a rapport.
  • Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.
  • Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN.
  • Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are met.
  • Support RN’s in providing information and advice on health promotion.
  • Responsible for high standards of cleanliness and follow all guidelines set by infection control policy.
  • Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated area.
  • Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and the effect of these on your role.
  • Work as an effective team member of the clinical team and support continued team development.
  • Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse (RN).
  • Undertakes simple procedures using aseptic technique.
  • Performs a range of relevant clinical skills e.g. Phlebotomy, ECG.

Person specification experience and skills:

  • Good general education including literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Evidence of venepuncture skills.
  • Experience of manual handling of patient.
  • Previous experience of working in a care environment.
  • Able to accurately update patient records for care delivered including changes to patient condition.
  • Ability to carry out routine duties acting on own initiative with limited supervision.
  • Ability to use IT skills proficiently on using relevant IT systems.
  • Ability to supervise others e.g. T-level students, new Band 3 CSW etc.
  • Caring, self-motivated, enthusiastic, approachable, diplomatic, innovative and flexible.
  • ECDL or equivalent.
  • Experience of recording ECG's.
  • Previous experience in OPD.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Completion of the NHS Care Certificate or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or a willingness to undertake this.
  • Good standard of basic English and Maths.
  • Knowledge and skills at manual handling of patients using lifting aids and adaptations.
  • Good standard of basic IT skills such as emailing, Teams and Word / Excel.
