Lecturer – Construction Technology (Industry-experienced Civil Engineer preferred)

We are seeking a self‑motivated, reliable person, who has the desire to help others develop a passion in Civil Engineering and Construction Management, to join our team at UHI Inverness. You do not need to have a teaching qualification to apply as training will be provided,though some experience of instructing or teaching is welcome. You should possess effective interpersonal and strong team working skills. Using an innovative approach, you will deliver curriculum related subjects to a diverse range of students at a variety of levels; in workshops, laboratories, and class, including virtual, environments.

As a professional member of the teaching staff of UHI Inverness, you will be responsible for the preparation of lessons, the teaching of students and the marking and assessment of their work. You will be required to have a flexible approach and be an effective team member, able to develop and deliver a high‑quality curriculum and educational experience.

To apply for this vacancy, you must be qualified in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or Structural Engineering or equivalent to at least Honours Degree level (or equivalent qualification), have industrial experience and ideally be a member of a civil engineering professional body (e.g. Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Institute of Highway Engineers).

Job Purpose:

To support delivery of National Certificate, Higher National Certificate and Graduate Apprentice Degree Qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and associated subjects, normally from SCQF levels 5 to 10. The role is based at UHI Inverness Campus, and teaching is delivered through a blended approach, with the majority of sessions taking place face‑to‑face in classrooms, labs, and workshops.

A minimum of an Honours degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Relevant and demonstrable industry experience in civil engineering or construction management.

The successful post holder will need to pass a satisfactory PVG Scheme check through Disclosure Scotland prior to commencing employment.
