Job Summary Deliver high standards of evidence‑based nursing care in the Short Stay Unit / Same Day Emergency Care (SSU/SDEC) at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The role involves comprehensive nursing assessment and planning, independent care delivery, teaching and supervising junior staff, and working safely and compassionately within a multidisciplinary team. Job Responsibilities Assess the needs of patients/families and carers; plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of evidence‑based nursing care, maintaining accurate written and electronic records. Practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code and the Trust’s policies and protocols. Recognise and respond to deterioration in patient condition, acting promptly and referring where appropriate. Manage emergent situations, developing competence in clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and male catheterisation. Prioritise and coordinate own workload, escalating to senior staff when limitations are recognised. Act as an effective team member, fostering positive interdisciplinary relationships. Communicate clearly, demonstrating written, verbal and non‑verbal skills, including in complex or difficult scenarios. Maintain cleanliness and safety of the clinical environment, promoting diversity and fighting discrimination. Ensure compliance with Data Protection, Caldicott principles and safeguarding requirements, including the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Person Specification – Essential Registered Nurse – Part 1, Current NMC Registration and evidence of recent continuous professional development. Demonstrates an empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers. Demonstrates sound understanding of personal and professional accountability. Person Specification – Desirable Education to a degree level or working towards one.
