Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for both newly qualified and experienced paediatric staff nurses to join our well‑established team. We currently have a full‑time permanent post and will consider applications from adult nurses with an interest in paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

The Dolphin and Lion ward is a 44‑bed acute paediatric ward with a designated High Dependency Unit and oncology beds, caring for children and young people aged 0‑16 years with a variety of medical, surgical, ENT, orthopaedic and shared‑care oncology conditions. We offer a family‑centred, supportive learning environment and are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, team‑playing nurse with excellent communication skills and a desire for professional development. We provide a comprehensive preceptorship package, ward‑based Practice Educator support, and opportunities for external academic modules in Mentorship, Care of the Critically Ill Child (HDU) and Chemotherapy Administration. Successful candidates may also work in our Paediatric ED and Neonatal Unit.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical governance, maintain and improve standards of patient care, act as a role model placing the patient’s experience at the core of service delivery, and assist in monitoring and auditing the quality of care through risk management, incident reporting, complaints, research, effectiveness monitoring and clinical audit.
  • Contribute to service development, manage financial resources within the allocated budget, ensure effective skill mix and appropriate caseload management, and promote a safe, healthy and secure working environment by identifying and mitigating risks.

  • Qualifications: Registered Nurse (Child) or studying towards a recognised nursing degree in children’s nursing
  • Experience: Experience in a paediatric ward; Experience in a care environment dealing with children
