We are recruiting for a full time Specialty Registrar Doctor in Gastroenterology at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will support the current delivery of Gastroenterology outpatient services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. Gastroenterology outpatient skills are essential and most sub-speciality interests can be accommodated. Endoscopy skills would be desirable.
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients, and raise departmental profile through teaching and education.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will support the current delivery of Gastroenterology outpatient, inpatient and endoscopy services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. General medical and in-patient gastroenterology skills are required, and the applicant will be expected to contribute to the on call medical rota.
The aim of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Gastroenterology department is to become a leader in the field of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy and the successful applicant must therefore have the pre-requisite procedural and leadership skills as well as team work, drive and ambition to succeed in achieving these goals.

The Trust has a track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for 500,000 patients across West Berkshire, and includes locations such as King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor, and multiple community locations.
Job Responsibilities
Immediate responsibilities
The post holder will share clinical duties within the Gastroenterology department with the present medical and nursing team. An office base with administrative support will be provided.
Clinical objectives
- To provide high quality clinical care in gastroenterology clinics both independently and under supervision.
- To provide high quality skills in endoscopy (training available for suitable candidates).
- To provide high quality clinical care to gastroenterology and general medical inpatients at registrar level, supporting junior medical colleagues, but reporting to the consultant of the week.
Other responsibilities
- To participate in the daily running and development of the service.
- To facilitate teaching and training within the department.
- Participation and involvement in clinical governance, quality improvement and other business in the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy department.
Person Specification
Essential
- Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Broad experience in General and Specialist Gastroenterology
Desirable
- JAG accredited in upper and lower GI endoscopy
- Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines.
- Good IT skills, use of patient and hospital database.
Leadership & Research
- Evidence of clinical leadership role demonstrating accountability for quality of care, financial controls and efficient management of workforce
- Evidence of providing good teaching and supervision to trainees.
Desirable Educational qualification
- GMC accredited educational supervisor
Personal Qualities
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English.
- Willingness to take responsibility, and exert appropriate authority.
- Excellent team working skills, and able to work within MDT.
- Accountability; ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
