Job Summary

We are excited to recruit Band 6 Senior Radiographers to join our Plain Film imaging team. As part of this role, Radiographers will be working throughout the Plain Film department rotating through a range of specialties including the emergency department, orthopaedics, pain and endoscopy unit, outpatients and mobiles, surgical theatres, and spoke sites in Henley and Bracknell. The department supports CPD and role extension with opportunities for training and development across Ultrasound, Plain Film reporting, Mammography, Fluoroscopy PG cert reporting, and other study days.

Successful applicants for this Plain Film/General Band 6 Senior Radiographer post will have a minimum of 18 months\’ post qualification clinical experience and NHS experience (training or prior employment). Interviews are held in person at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate clinical skills competence and knowledge of radiographic anatomy and relevant pathology.
  • Work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams; be flexible to rotate through satellite spoke sites.
  • Mentor radiography students and apprentices; participate in the out-of-hours rota for a seven-day service (including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays).
  • Possibly rotate through CT or Interventional Radiology depending on service needs.
  • Make independent decisions regarding the appropriateness of examinations and follow established protocols; liaise with Consultant Radiologists as required.
  • Use Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient registration, ordering and scheduling; ensure accurate patient records including radiation dose.
  • Utilise PACS to ensure optimum image quality and participate in quality assurance equipment testing.
  • Provide high-quality radiographic imaging, technique and patient positioning while minimising radiation doses (ALARP).
  • Work primarily in the Radiology Department with rotation to satellite units (West Berkshire Community Hospital, Townlands Memorial Hospital at Henley, Royal Berkshire Bracknell Healthspace).

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • BSc Degree in Radiography, DCR(R), or equivalent radiographic qualification.
  • Evidence of current Continuing Professional Development activity.
  • Recent NHS experience (through training or employment) and a minimum of 18 months post-qualification clinical experience at Band 5 level.
  • Knowledge of radiographic anatomy and relevant pathology; strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to participate in out-of-hours rota to deliver seven-day service.

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma or equivalent postgraduate experience.
  • Experience in supervision/training of staff and/or line management.
  • Mentorship of students and junior colleagues.
  • Knowledge of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.

Additional Information

The post is based in Reading with rotation to satellite units and requires participation in 24/7 services; to include weekend and evening working. The role involves liaising with referrers, patients and their representatives.
