We are excited to recruit Band 6 Senior Radiographers to join our Plain Film imaging team. Radiographers will rotate through the Plain Film department across specialties including the emergency department, orthopaedics, pain and endoscopy unit, outpatients and mobiles, surgical theatres, and spoke sites in Henley and Bracknell. The role supports CPD and career development within a progressive teaching department that links with universities.
Successful applicants will have a minimum of 18 months' post-qualification clinical experience and must have prior NHS experience either through training or previous employment. Applications may close early due to high volume.
The post is based primarily in the Radiology Department of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in Reading, with rotation to satellite units at West Berkshire Community Hospital (Thatcham), Townlands Memorial Hospital (Henley), and the Royal Berkshire Bracknell Healthspace (Bracknell). The department offers training and development opportunities with funding for various courses.
Main duties of the job
- Applicants must demonstrate clinical skills competence and robust knowledge of radiographic anatomy and relevant pathology, with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- They must be able to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams, be flexible to work at satellite spoke sites, mentor radiography students and apprentices, and participate in the out-of-hours rota as part of a seven-day service (including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays).
- There may be opportunities to rotate through CT or Interventional Radiology depending on service needs.
- Senior Radiographers should demonstrate independent decision-making, leadership behaviours, and the ability to mentor junior Radiographers.
All candidates must hold HCPC registration and reside in the UK. This post requires 18 months’ minimum post-qualification experience and NHS experience.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide high-quality radiographic imaging, technique, and patient positioning to deliver patient care.
- Assess and justify referrals under IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017, including complex or acute cases.
- Make autonomous decisions regarding examination appropriateness and follow established protocols; liaise with Consultant Radiologists as required.
- Utilise Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient registration, ordering, scheduling, and recording radiation dose factors.
- Use the Picture Archive & Communication System (PACS) to ensure optimum image quality; participate in QA equipment testing.
- Prioritise and organise own work to respond to clinical and service needs; contribute to 24/7 service delivery, including weekends and evenings, with rotation to satellite units.
- Supervise, train, and support junior staff and radiography students.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications
- Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council
- BSc Degree in Radiography, DCR(R), or equivalent radiographic qualification
- Evidence of current Continuing Professional Development activity
Experience
- Recent clinical experience in the NHS through training or previous employment
- Minimum 18 months of clinical experience at Band 5 level

Skills and Knowledge
