Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust conducts health and care at the heart of the community. Following the recent CQC inspection, the Trust has been rated Good for overall quality and Good for its organisation and leadership.

The Trust is looking for a Band 2 Phlebotomist to join the Pathology Department. The post holder will initially work under the supervision of the senior phlebotomy team and managers, progressing to independent work when competent.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venepuncture in inpatient and outpatient settings, adjusting techniques to suit clinical conditions and sample quality requirements.
  • Follow department policies and procedures, and collaborate with clinical scientific and technical staff to maintain professional standards.
  • Label blood sample bottles accurately and package samples for laboratory transport.
  • Provide reception and telephone support, directing complex enquiries to senior staff.
  • Adhere to ISO (International Standards Organisation) requirements and complete relevant training and competence checks.
  • Seek guidance from experienced phlebotomists when necessary.
Person SpecificationEducation
  • Essential: GCSEs/NVQ to level 2.
  • Desirable: Venepuncture certificate.
Experience
  • Essential: Customer service experience.
  • Desirable: Experience in a healthcare environment; previous venepuncture experience.
Skills
  • Essential: Good computer skills.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
