Contract & Hours

Contract: Fixed term 12 months (cover secondment)

Hours: Part time – 23 hours per week (12‑hour shifts: long days, long nights)

Salary

£31,049 – £37,796 per annum, pro rata for part‑time candidates (Yearly)

Responsible Role

  • Develop, implement and review planned nursing care, and maintain associated records for patients in the neonatal unit.
  • Work effectively as a team member, assisting in the management and organization of nursing work as required.
  • Display clear communication skills, acting as a role model for good practice and supporting the development of students and more junior colleagues.
  • Carry out comprehensive nursing assessments and planning, delivering and evaluating evidenced‑based nursing care to a diverse group of patients.
  • Act independently, without direct supervision, while being accountable for the care delivered and any omissions of care.
  • Teach and supervise junior staff, student nurses and non‑registered nursing workforce.
  • Complete the neonatal preceptorship and follow the QIS pathway thereafter.

Person Specification

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a neonatal ward.
  • Experience with babies and their families.
  • Empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers.
  • Sound understanding of personal and professional accountability.
  • Registered Nurse or studying towards a recognised nursing degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience dealing with babies and their families.
