This is a fixed‑term/secondment opportunity to October 2026 to cover maternity leave. Band 7, but depending on experience we may offer Band 6.
Are you a dynamic individual with extensive paediatric ward experience? We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity to join our team and are looking to employ a skilled, forward‑thinking, dynamic individual as a senior paediatric physiotherapist. The post is suitable for an experienced physiotherapist with past leadership and service development experience in a paediatric inpatient setting. You will work with children and young people with a variety of conditions across the general paediatric wards at RBH, with some outpatient work at the paediatric department at Dingley Child Development Centre.
Main duties of the job:
- The successful applicant will have extensive NHS paediatric experience (including paediatric respiratory and inpatient rehabilitation) and possess excellent assessment, clinical reasoning, treatment and teaching skills.
- Regular appraisal, supervision and support will be given.
- You will lead the implementation of new initiatives to continue to develop the service in line with best practice and clinical guidelines whilst working closely alongside senior colleagues.
- Be a physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of paediatric patients (inpatients and acute outpatients) for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).
- Be responsible for the operational management and clinical leadership of the physiotherapy team in conjunction with the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team Lead and Therapies Management.
- Use expert physiotherapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to the physiotherapy team and other healthcare staff, and to manage own caseload of patients with highly complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
- Ensure a high quality, effective physiotherapy service.
- Be a member of the Physiotherapy Department Management team, contributing to planning and policy development in the inter‑professional team and department.
- Deputise for the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team Lead as required.

Essential:
- Clearly demonstrated specialist skills in paediatrics
- Management/leadership experience
- Degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy
- HCPC registered
- Experience of service development in clinical area
- Working at a clinical specialist level
- Extensive postgraduate clinical experience
- Advanced knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of highly complex conditions
- Experience of teaching and presenting to other staff
- Experience of supervising and developing other staff and students
Desirable:
- Advanced training in specialist area of paediatrics
- Previous experience in a range of healthcare settings
