An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 cardiac nurse within our established Cardiac Support Team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This position is an excellent opportunity for any Band 5 nurse looking to develop further specialist skills and gain an insight into how a speciality team and Clinical Nurse Specialist role works. The role would also provide a unique experience from the ward and full training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is looking to develop their expertise in this area of cardiovascular medicine and who is prepared to strive for delivery of a gold standard cardiac rehabilitation service.
  • You will be working closely with our current cardiac rehabilitation nurse and will assist in the management of patients referred for cardiac rehabilitation through referral, assessment, delivery of a menu based rehabilitation programme and discharge.
  • You would be reporting in to the Lead Nurse.
  • If successful, you would be required to attend a British Association of Cardio Pulmonary Rehabilitation "Physical Activity and Exercise in the Management of Cardiovascular Disease" Parts I online training in order to fulfil this post.

Cardiac Support is a small friendly team of Cardiology Nurse Specialists, Heart Function Specialist Nurses, Cardiac Rehabilitation Team and Cardiac Support Administrator, that is looking to welcome a new member to the team. We are an integral part of the Cardiology multidisciplinary service and provide the follow-up service for the complex needs of cardiology patients, covering a wide spectrum of cardiology conditions.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the cardiac rehabilitation nurses, you will be responsible for managing the cardiac rehabilitation referral list and refer on to appropriate services as necessary.
  • Identify suitable patients for the programme at RBH.
  • Deliver educational sessions within the programme.
  • Deliver evidence based cardiac advice, care and treatment throughout the programme.
  • To identify patients requiring further medical review throughout the programme and discuss within cardiac rehabilitation team.
  • To identify and act swiftly in the case of medical emergencies.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the identification, assessment, delivery and evaluation of cardiac rehabilitation at Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH).
  • To be responsible for supporting the cardiac rehabilitation nurses and other Specialist practitioners delivering care within the team.
  • Works strategically to influence the development of the service and ensures best care given within given resources.
  • Partakes in clinical audits and data input.

  • Essential criteria: Demonstrates excellent communication and team working, demonstrates autonomous working, demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
  • Desirable criteria: Recent Clinical Cardiology Experience.
