Diagnostic Radiographer – with Preceptorship

Overview of the Role

In this role, Radiographers will be working throughout the Plain Film department rotating through a range of specialties including the emergency department, orthopaedics, pain and endoscopy unit, outpatients and mobiles, surgical theatres, and spoke sites in Henley and Bracknell. The preceptorship programme develops newly qualified Radiographers in their first year as autonomous practitioners and prepares them to work at spoke sites independently. After preceptorship, Radiographers can continue professional development through the Band 6 Development Passport.

The department supports CPD, role extension, and funded courses. It offers opportunities to undertake postgraduate training in Ultrasound, Plain Film reporting, Mammography, Fluoroscopy PG Cert reporting, and related development pathways.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate clinical skills competence with robust knowledge of radiographic anatomy and relevant pathology.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within multi-disciplinary teams; flexible to work at satellite spoke sites.
  • Mentor radiography students and apprentices; participate in the out-of-hours rota as part of a seven-day service (including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays).
  • Rotate through CT or Interventional Radiology as service needs.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care and radiographic imaging, ensuring accurate records and documentation.

Requirements

  • Essential: HCPC registration; UK resident; NHS experience (training or prior employment).
  • Desirable: Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • For 2026 intake: applicants may qualify in 2026 with start date before 31 August 2026.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council; BSc Degree in Radiography, DCR(R), or equivalent radiographic qualification.
  • Desirable: Current CPD activity; recent NHS clinical experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of radiographic anatomy and relevant pathology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (IR(ME)R).
  • Desirable: Ability to mentor students/junior colleagues; ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to participate in out-of-hours rota.
