- International Sales Engineer in
Europe/UK to partner with our sales team and help customers evaluate, implement, and succeed with our solutions.
As a Sales Engineer, you will be the technical and consultative bridge between UDC's Business Development team and our delivery organization.
You will partner closely with the Business Development Director throughout the pre-sales cycle — understanding client challenges, shaping solutions, and demonstrating how Esri-based GIS and operational technologies can address them.
Once an opportunity is won, you will support the transition into delivery, working alongside UDC's operations teams to ensure a smooth handover and a consistent experience for the client from first conversation through to project execution.
This is a hybrid role with travel required throughout Europe that blends pre-sales solution engineering with ongoing delivery support, giving you visibility across the full client lifecycle and a direct hand in UDC's continued growth across the European market.
About UDC
UDC is a privately owned, software-independent systems integrator and consulting partner helping utilities maximize their enterprise geospatial and digital investments, from strategic road mapping to full implementation.
We understand the business, the data, and the workflows, and bring solutions that help utilities meet regulatory compliance, improve reliability, and operate more efficiently.
Founded in 2005, UDC has grown into a team of over 700 geospatial and utility specialists and, as a Platinum Esri Partner since 2006, brings deep platform expertise alongside broad operational technology experience across electric, gas, water, and telecom/fiber networks.
We regularly collaborate with global systems integrators and Esri distributors to extend our reach and deliver joined-up solutions for clients worldwide.
UDC delivers full lifecycle project and program support across North America and internationally, and is expanding its presence with clients across Europe.
What you will do
- Partner with the Business Development Director throughout the pre-sales process, from initial client conversations through to proposal and close.
- Meet with new and prospective customers to understand their operational and GIS challenges, and uncover the underlying business needs behind them.
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept sessions that articulate the value of Esri-based GIS and related operational technologies.
- Translate client requirements into credible, well-scoped solutions in collaboration with UDC's technical and practice area teams.
- Support the handover of closed opportunities into delivery, working closely with UDC practice area leads and operations teams so that project teams inherit full context and momentum.
- Maintain awareness of UDC's global project portfolio and previous engagements, using this knowledge to inform new opportunities and client conversations.
- Act as a trusted, consistent point of contact for clients as they move from the sales process into active delivery.
- Travel throughout Europe (approximately 20–40%) to meet clients, support presentations, and stay connected with delivery teams on the ground.
- What we look for from you
- A solid understanding of how utilities use GIS, with specific familiarity with the Esri platform (Arc GIS and related products).
- Experience with operational technologies (e. g. ADMS, SCADA, asset/outage management systems) and how they interact with and depend on GIS applications.
- The ability to demonstrate and clearly articulate the business and technical benefits of a technology solution to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A strong understanding of the sales process, ideally combined with genuine curiosity about client problems rather than a purely transactional approach.
- Active listening skills — the ability to sit with a client, understand their situation, and uncover the real need behind the request.
- A consulting background is a strong bonus, particularly within the utility, infrastructure, or enterprise GIS space.
- Comfort working across cultures and geographies, and flexibility to travel across Europe as required.
- Fluent English; additional European languages are an advantage given the multi-country client base.
- What Success looks like
In this role, success means client confidence at every stage of the journey.
UDC aims to make our customers feel genuinely understood during pre-sales and experience a seamless, well-informed transition when their project moves into delivery.
You will be measured not only on your contribution to closed opportunities, but on the strength and continuity you bring to the relationship between UDC's sales and operations teams.
- The opportunity to work for a Platinum Esri Partner at the forefront of digital transformation for utilities globally.
- Exposure to a wide range of clients, technologies, and projects across Europe and internationally.
- A collaborative, project-based culture that values technical credibility alongside strong client relationships.
- A hybrid role that combines the variety of pre-sales with the substance of delivery, rather than a narrow, single-lane sales position.
- Competitive compensation and benefits, commensurate with experience and location.
