Cannington College is seeking a passionate and skilled Practical Instructor to join our Agriculture team, delivering high-quality livestock practical sessions that inspire and equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in the agricultural industry.

Salary - £28,936- £30,762 per annum (Actual) £32,350 - £34,392 per annum (FTE) plus 20.3% Employer pension Contribution. This is a term time only position.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver livestock practical sessions and ensure students develop and demonstrate industry best practice in livestock handling, husbandry, and welfare.
  • Support learners in gaining practical competencies required by their qualifications, while nurturing employability and progression potential.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum team and farm staff to ensure practical learning is aligned with qualification requirements and curriculum priorities.
  • Maximise opportunities for student-centred teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring every session is purposeful, engaging, and reflective of real-world agricultural standards.

Role specifics

To ensure students gain meaningful, hands-on experience in key areas such as milking, feeding, and livestock husbandry, this role includes a rotational shift pattern for a set number of weeks (typically x15 weeks of the academic year). During these weeks, post holders will work either:

  • AM Shift: 04:00 – 13:00 (Including a 1 hour Break)
  • PM Shift: 12:00 – 20:00 (Including a 1 Hour Break)

These shifts are designed to mirror real industry working patterns and provide students with authentic, immersive learning experiences. For the remaining weeks of the academic year and administration weeks, the standard working hours will be 08:30 – 17:00 (Monday to Thursday) and 08:30 - 16:30 on Fridays.
