Overview
The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at UCL was established by Professor Sir Ambrose Fleming in 1885 as the first department of electrical technology in England. We push in new directions across research, education and entrepreneurship, building on our long-established links with industry.
About the role
The Strategic Alliance Director (SAD) will work in support of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The SAD will be charged with the execution of the mid to long term development plan regarding industrial engagement and translational activities to achieve and sustain business growth and real-world impact. Responsibilities include:
- Organising regular planning and review meetings with industrial contacts and staff.
- Promoting excellence in industrial relations, including research projects in collaboration with industry.
- Embedding industrial expertise in teaching activities.
- Contributing to creating a high profile of the department in national, EU and international arenas.
This is a hybrid role with an expectation of minimum 60% in person attendance on our Bloomsbury campus. The role is available until 31st July 2029 in the first instance.
About you
The successful candidate will possess a level of knowledge generally acquired by a postgraduate academic degree in a discipline relating to electronic and electrical engineering, computer science or physics. They should have:
- Strategic leadership experience.
- Experience of working in industry and/or interdisciplinary academic units.
- Experience of developing proposals and winning new partnerships and/or business.
- Experience of developing and successfully deploying strategic operating plans.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with effective negotiation skills. The ability to work effectively under pressure, manage projects, prioritise tasks, and have excellent time management skills are also required.
