About the Role

Founded in 1902, UCL Institute of Education has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. The IOE requires senior, experienced level support for its research pre‑award applications, research contracts and grant management. Working closely with the Head of IOE Research Operations and the Deputy Head of IOE Research Operations, the post holder will develop and implement strategies to enhance the research community across IOE, promote interdisciplinary collaborations, and drive forward research objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead administrative responsibility for all aspects of research grant pre‑award support, including disseminating funding opportunities and advising on the development of pre‑award applications.
  • Manage the pre‑award bid submission process ensuring funding costs meet both funder and UCL recovery criteria.
  • Support the lead academic during award set‑up and contracting processes.
  • Provide financial budgeting information and oversee day‑to‑day project administration, budget reconciliation and data compilation.
  • Produce concise written reports and support funder reporting and any audit requirements.
  • Line‑manage one or a small team of Research Administrators, set objectives, monitor performance, conduct appraisals and offer guidance.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance and promote a successful, positive environment across the Faculty.

Qualifications

  • Senior, experienced level with a proven track record in research pre‑award and grant management.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of research funding bodies, processes and regulations within a higher education (HE) environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of research support activities.
  • Experience in managing and developing a small team of research administrators.
