The Bartlett, Faculty of the Built Environment is one of the oldest but most radical faculties of its kind. About the role
The role of the successful applicant(s) will be to carry out indoor environmental quality and energy modelling in a range of building types and sectors and for different occupancy profiles to quantify indoor environmental exposures in the context of Net Zero targets and a changing climate, with a potential focus on vulnerable populations. The candidate should have extensive experience in computational modelling, and in particular, experience in the dynamic building performance simulation software EnergyPlus (or have expertise of running a similar building performance simulation software and the ability to adapt to using EnergyPlus). They should have the ability to handle and analyse large datasets, using suitable software such as R, Python, Matlab or similar. Further experience in building stock energy or indoor environment modelling would be desirable. The ideal candidate is a highly quantitative and analytical person with a PhD or close to completing a PhD in built environment, physics, climate, environmental, or atmospheric sciences or a related quantitative field, and a keen interest in transdisciplinary research. This post is available from 1 May 2025 and is currently funded until 31 January 2028. Further funding may become available.
About you
An emerging reputation as an independent researcher in a research field that is relevant to the subject area, with publication record appropriate to career stage. Experience in the EnergyPlus software (or considerable experience in dynamic building performance modelling and the ability to become skilled at EnergyPlus) and analysing output, and experience in statistically analysing large datasets. PhD in built environment, physics, climate, environmental, or atmospheric sciences or a related quantitative field, or commensurate experience.
