About us

The MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies offers unique insight into current psychoanalytic theory taking students from a historical introduction to the most advanced level of theorising in a range of areas. Over the last 4 years, the average intake has been 25 students, the majority of whom are international students. A large proportion of the teaching is delivered by clinicians practicing psychoanalysis who are keen to teach at this relatively sophisticated theoretical level unavailable at other universities. The successful candidate will join the UCL core team comprising the Programme Director, Senior Programme Tutor, and Programme Administrator.

About the role

The main purpose of the job is to carry out teaching, assessment, programme organization, and student mentoring for the MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies. The Programme Tutor will work in a close team with the Programme Director (Dr Liz Allison), the Senior Programme Tutor (Ms Philippa de Lacy), and the Programme Administrator (Ms Monique Todd); there is also a collaboration over curriculum planning with the Chair of the Curriculum Committee (currently Mr Fakhry Davids). The Programme Tutor shares responsibility for admissions, pastoral and academic support to students, marking assessments, and as much direct teaching and dissertation supervision as is agreed with the course team.

About you

The successful candidate needs to be a psychoanalyst or candidate in training in the British Psycho-Analytical Society. The candidate should possess a strong academic record and should be an able teacher suited to a university setting.
