About us
UCL Department of Geography is looking for expressions of interest for Postgraduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) in the 2025/26 academic year.
The Department of Geography (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/geography/) is widely recognised as one of the leading geography departments in the world (4th worldwide in the QS Ranking 2025, 2nd in the Shanghai world rankings 2024). It has been highly rated in all seven UK Research Assessment Exercises, and the 2021 REF confirmed that 96% of the Department\’s research activity is considered World Leading (4*) or Internationally Excellent (3*).
About the role
We are looking for PGTAs to teach on a wide range of modules. More information on each of the modules (including term, weeks taught, indicative hours of work, overview, and required skills) can be found via the \”PGTA Module List 2025-26 – AUGUST 2025.xlsx\”. Further details are also available through UCL\’s Module Catalogue (search by module code/name).
The roles support teaching and learning in our modules working with academic module coordinators. Responsibilities may include:
- Leading seminars by designing and preparing teaching material, delivering small group teaching, planning delivery, generating tutorial material, and liaising with the module team.
- Supporting field-class activities, which may include travel and overnight stays.
- Contributing to and maintaining Moodle online learning facilities, assisting students via forums, chats, FAQs, etc.
- Marking assessments and providing detailed feedback to students; responding to academic queries.
- Viewing pre-recorded lectures and undertaking readings, attending seminars as agreed.
All PGTAs are paid on Grade 6 of the UCL non-clinical salary scale.
