About the role
Reporting to the Head of HR Services, the HR Immigration Compliance Manager will lead a team of Immigration Compliance Advisors, ensuring UCL remains compliant in its regulatory control within Right to Work and sponsored worker obligations. The role will provide strategic direction and offer the business recommendations on best practices in immigration policy and process across the HR function and external business areas. Collaboration will be key, as you engage with teams across Professional Services and faculties and departments. As such, this role is customer-facing and is also a critical support to the senior leadership team. The role thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, requiring a proactive and customer-focused approach to HR compliance.
As a trusted advisor, you will provide expert guidance to HR teams and senior leaders on evolving immigration and RTW requirements, safeguarding data accuracy within the HR system to facilitate seamless monthly payroll processes. You will take ownership of HR's internal and external compliance audit schedule. With direct oversight of the HR Immigration Compliance Team Leader, you will also drive a culture of high performance, continuously improving team effectiveness. You will manage relationships with third-party providers and immigration partners, ensuring they meet key performance indicators. Compliance will be at the heart of everything you do, from ensuring UCL meets its UKVI regulatory obligations throughout the employee administration process. Above all, this role is about building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues, fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement in HR immigration compliance.
About you
You will have proven experience within a similar immigration and/or compliance-related managerial role, with practiced relevant knowledge of UKVI legislative requirements, regulatory bodies, and related processes. A strong understanding of setting up and monitoring controls based on risk ratings is essential. Experience in improving processes within an HR service (delivery/compliance function) is key, as is familiarity with CRM ticketing systems to manage correspondence, processes, and service delivery for customers. In addition to this, you will have the ability to report on and analyze inputs, trends, and performance. You will also have the capability to conduct mini and full compliance audits, write reports, and manage and monitor actions. This role requires excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills, along with strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Desirable criteria
Desirable criteria include experience with Lean Six Sigma or an equivalent methodology, previous work in a Higher Education setting and/or experience with outsourcing models, an understanding of Risk Management, and familiarity with HR and payroll systems such as Oracle.
