About us
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Engineering Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), aims to train the next generation of industry, public-sector, and academic leaders to engineer and coordinate solutions for the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The Centre will provide a unique cohort experience to its students, offering 4-year PhD studentships. The Centre is a collaboration between the UCL Faculties of Engineering Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Life and Medical Sciences, and will be hosted by the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN).
The LCN is an interdisciplinary enterprise between University College London, King's College London, and Imperial College London. In bringing together world-class infrastructure and leading nanotechnology research activities, the Centre aims to attain the critical mass to compete with the best facilities abroad. The LCN has strong relationships with the broader nanotechnology and commercial communities and is involved in major collaborations. As the world's only such facility located in the heart of a metropolis, the LCN has superb access to corporate, investment, and industrial partners. It is at the forefront of training in nanotechnology and has a strong media presence aimed at educating the public and bringing transparency to this emerging science.
At UCL, the LCN occupies an eight-story building on the Bloomsbury campus. The LCN at UCL functions as a research department in the MAPS Faculty at UCL, hosting 35 research groups, 140 postgraduate research students, and several advanced research facilities. It has extensive connections with other departments and faculties across UCL, with partner universities, and with national laboratories.
About the role
The role will provide a high-quality and timely service to current and prospective students and staff involved with the CDT. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the full student lifecycle from enquiry to completion through tasks such as coordinating assessment processes and maintaining student and course records.
- Supporting wider CDT administration, including day-to-day financial administration, organising committees, and assisting with the delivery of an exciting and diverse doctoral training offer in antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
This is a fixed-term contract until September 2032 and is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 60% on site.
About you
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented individual with excellent organisational and communication skills to join our Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) team. You will bring a strong track record in administrative support, ideally gained within a Higher Education or similarly complex environment, and demonstrate confidence in managing a diverse and busy workload.
You will be educated to at least GCSE level (including English and Maths) or have equivalent experience, with the ability to handle a wide range of administrative responsibilities. These include supporting meetings and committees, maintaining accurate records and systems, coordinating student-facing processes, and contributing to events and training delivery.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, alongside a high level of IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). You will be comfortable managing sensitive information, interpreting data to inform reporting, and producing clear, professional documentation to a high standard.
The role requires someone who can work independently and as part of a collaborative team, building effective working relationships with students, academic colleagues, professional services, and external stakeholders. A flexible, service-oriented attitude and a commitment to UCL's values around equity, diversity, and inclusion are key.
Experience of student administration, financial processes, or supporting research activities will be advantageous, as will familiarity with systems such as Portico or Je-S.
