About the role
UCL is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to support a major public art commission at the UCL Multi Lab facility, opening in Autumn at UCL East. Working closely with artist Emma Smith, the UCL Cultural and Community Engagement team, researchers, and students, you will co-develop and implement an inclusive engagement strategy that incorporates local voices into the project.
In this role, you will:
- Build and maintain relationships with east London community groups and residents
- Design and coordinate creative engagement activities reflecting local interests
- Support the development, delivery, and evaluation of the engagement programme
- Facilitate collaboration among the artist, researchers, students, and the community
- Communicate project outcomes through blogs, case studies, and events
You will play a key role in embedding a culture of engagement across the UCL Multi Lab, ensuring a lasting positive impact. Flexible working arrangements are available, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
This is a part-time (2 days per week), fixed-term contract for 12 months, based on a hybrid model at UCL East Campus, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford.

About you
You should have experience in community engagement within diverse and deprived geographical areas, with a focus on art-based public engagement in research contexts, ideally with a focus on learning and development for artists and researchers. You should also be skilled in building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with community partners.
Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Project management experience, including developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and managing budgets
- Experience integrating arts and research, with knowledge of best practices in public and community engagement, preferably in higher education
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage a demanding and varied workload
