We are seeking a Strategic Research Facilitator to join the Research Coordination Office for the Life and Medical Sciences. This role will play a key part in supporting researchers, academics and clinicians to develop high-quality, competitive funding applications and fellowships, while contributing to UCL’s broader strategic research ambitions.
You will work closely with researchers across a defined portfolio of divisions and institutes, developing a deep understanding of their research strengths and priorities. The role involves supporting personal awards and fellowships, enabling collaboration on large and complex strategic bids, and contributing to internal triage and interview processes where application limits apply.
Alongside this, you will build and maintain strong relationships with major UK and international funders, share intelligence on funding opportunities and policy developments, and help position UCL’s life and medical sciences research to succeed in an increasingly competitive funding landscape. You will also contribute to training, communications and strategic initiatives that enhance research development capability across UCL. This is a highly collaborative role, working across faculties and professional services, and offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on UCL’s research success and reputation.
You will bring a strong understanding of the research funding environment, ideally gained within a research-intensive university or comparable organisation. You will have experience supporting successful research bids and fellowships, horizon scanning for funding opportunities, and working confidently with academics and external stakeholders at all levels.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential, alongside the ability to analyse complex research proposals and provide constructive, high-quality feedback. You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, and comfortable working independently while remaining an engaged and supportive team member.
Discretion, sound judgement and the ability to handle sensitive information with care are crucial, as is a proactive, flexible approach and a commitment to inclusive, collaborative ways of working. Experience of life, biomedical or population health research funding would be particularly advantageous.
