This role is part of a team of three members of staff and provides essential technical support to our teaching laboratories within the School of Pharmacy, helping to ensure practical classes run smoothly and safely. The main responsibilities include washing and preparing glassware, autoclaving waste, restocking autoclave consumables, and supporting general laboratory housekeeping after teaching sessions. The role involves regular manual handling and other repetitive tasks as part of the routine upkeep of busy teaching laboratories. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys teamwork, takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness, and wants to contribute to an excellent learning environment for our students.
The successful candidate will primarily support the teaching laboratories in the School of Pharmacy, which deliver practical education for MPharm and MSc courses. The selection criteria include:
- A minimum of two A Levels in relevant subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications (NVQ, Apprenticeship, City & Guild), plus some experience in a relevant technical/scientific role.
- Or considerable work experience in a relevant technical/scientific role.
- An understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
- A basic understanding of science (within the areas of Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry Sciences).
- Experience in a laboratory environment is desirable.
