UCL is seeking a motivated and talented Global Engagement Manager (GEM) to join our Global Engagement team. Reporting to the Senior Global Engagement Manager, GEMs play a vital role within GE, providing high quality support to Senior Global Engagement Managers (SGEMs) and Strategic Global Initiatives Managers (SGIMs) within the team. GEMs ensure that GE projects and programmes overseen by SGEMs and SGIMs are delivered to high standards, managing the general operations of these activities.

Relationship building and partnership management is a core function of GE. In this capacity, GEMs work directly with external partner organisations, acting as an important regular contact point and ensuring that the relationship is managed effectively, tactfully and responsively. GEMs work with counterparts at the partner to support the implementation of existing and new activities. GEMs also provide practical assistance and insights to SGEMs and SGIMs to help develop new activities and provide first line operational advice and practical support to Faculties to facilitate their global engagement. GEMs work closely with SGEMs to develop their regional knowledge and understanding of the various contexts in which UCL engages internationally.

GEMs play an important role supporting the day-to-day activities of GE through desk-based research, accurate record keeping, and the management of meetings, events and projects, including senior-level inbound and outbound delegation visits. Ideally, the postholder will have experience working in the HE sector and wider understanding of relevant socio-political and cultural contexts. Some international travel may be required. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site presence (minimum of 2 days per week).

You will have some experience of developing international partnerships, ideally within the higher education, research, innovation, governmental or policy areas. These sectors may be the most immediately relevant to the role but candidates with transferable skills from other sectors are encouraged to apply. Given the initial focus of the role, the postholder will ideally possess good knowledge of the geo-political environment, cultural contexts, and socio-economic trends generally.

You may already have practical experience and awareness of internationalisation of higher education and be looking to deepen this. Conversely, you may be interested in developing your experiences and knowledge in this area for the first time. You will have a track record of supporting multiple complex projects simultaneously, keeping them on track independently while still working as part of a team.

Your written work, interpersonal and analytical skills will be of a high standard already, but the role will allow you significant opportunities to refine these. You will be comfortable operating in a highly international environment, working across cultures and communicating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

Please use the cover letter option to tell us how you meet the essential and if applicable, desirable criteria, using examples where possible.

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits:

  • 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays and 6 closure days)
  • Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme
  • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Immigration loan
  • Relocation scheme for certain posts
  • On-Site nursery
  • On-site gym
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service
  • Discounted medical insurance
