About the role
This role provides strategic and operational leadership for the Strategic Economics Alliance, overseeing the end-to-end delivery of a complex, cross-cutting programme of research, policy engagement, and network-building activities operating across institutes, countries, and policy domains. Working in close partnership with the PI, Professor Mariana Mazzucato, and Co-PI, Dr. Carolina Alves, the postholder will be responsible for shaping delivery plans, establishing effective project management systems, and ensuring coherence, quality, and momentum across multiple interconnected workstreams. The role includes line management and team leadership, coordination with internal colleagues and external partners, oversight of budgets and resources, and responsibility for high-quality convenings and communications support. It also plays a key role in supporting fundraising, funder reporting, and strategic refinement of the initiative, requiring sound judgement, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical, high-impact delivery within a dynamic research and policy environment.
About you
The successful candidate will be a highly organised and strategically minded programme leader with a strong track record of delivering complex, multi-partner initiatives in research, policy, or international development contexts. They will bring excellent project and people management skills, confidence in working across disciplines, countries, and institutional boundaries, and the ability to translate high-level strategic direction into coherent, well-executed programmes of work. Comfortable operating at the intersection of research, policy engagement, and network-building, they will be adept at stakeholder relationship management, convening diverse actors, and balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, solutions-oriented, and collaborative, with strong financial and operational oversight skills, experience supporting fundraising and funder reporting, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and high-quality delivery that advances the initiative's strategic impact and visibility. They will be a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to work closely with senior academics while also providing clear direction and support to programme staff. The role requires someone who is comfortable taking initiative, anticipating risks and opportunities, and ensuring that decisions are followed through operationally. Attention to detail, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to maintain momentum across multiple workstreams will be essential, alongside a pragmatic and adaptable approach to working in an evolving, collaborative research and policy environment.
