They are seeking an experienced leader with proven commercialisation expertise to join as Director of Physical Sciences and Engineering. With over 30 years of success, UCLB has licensed cutting-edge technologies and established spinouts that have attracted over £2.85bn in external investment.

The role of Director of Physical Sciences and Engineering at UCLB is a senior leadership team position within the organisation, responsible for guiding and overseeing the commercialisation of technologies stemming from cutting-edge research in physical sciences and engineering from UCL. This includes identifying opportunities for technology transfer, managing intellectual property (IP), and fostering collaborations between academia and industry.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and manage the Physical Sciences & Engineering team, providing expert advice on the commercialisation of intellectual property.
  • Shape the strategic direction of commercialisation within the Physical Sciences & Engineering faculties, aligning it with company goals.
  • Manage complex stakeholder relationships across UCL, external investors and spinout companies.
  • Lead and advise on high-profile transactions, including licensing, spinouts and investments.
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative culture, supporting and developing the Physical Sciences & Engineering team.

What experience you’ll need:

  • Significant experience in intellectual property, spin-outs, technology transfer or innovation-led sectors with a track record of overseeing and driving successful commercialisation.
  • Exceptional knowledge within Physical Sciences or Engineering, ideally across a wide breadth of IP.
  • A strategic and commercially pragmatic leader who balances risk with opportunity.
  • Gravitas and credibility to engage with senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in a high-impact environment.
  • Passionate about empowering teams and fostering an inclusive culture.
