This is a unique opportunity to shape a newly created role and build the frameworks, systems and processes that will support the next stage of business growth. You'll lead a small team whilst remaining actively involved in product design, development, testing and problem‑solving, and setting technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an approved product development roadmap and methodology
  • Own the complete product lifecycle from concept through to market introduction, including consideration of full product deployment, servicing, and whole‑life performance.
  • Translate customer requirements, operational challenges and technical expertise into commercially viable products and structured product definitions and specifications.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of the company's product portfolio, with a focus on scalable, standardised and modular solutions.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the capability of a small Product Development team.
  • Maintain a hands‑on approach to product design, prototyping, testing and technical problem‑solving.
  • Develop and embed structured product development processes, stage‑gate controls and project governance.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive product documentation and technical standards, including specifications, bills of materials, build instructions, installation instructions, technical files, testing records, manuals and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure product information is accurate, controlled and accessible across the business, with clear ownership, version control and structured data management.
  • Lead product validation, testing and structured risk assessment activities (e.g. FMEA) to ensure efficacy, quality, reliability and compliance.
  • Work closely with Operations, Procurement, Sales and Technical teams to ensure products can be efficiently manufactured, delivered, installed and supported.
  • Drive successful product introductions by ensuring full operational, technical and commercial readiness.
  • Support the rationalisation and continuous improvement of the existing product portfolio to improve scalability, efficiency and customer experience.
  • Capture and leverage technical knowledge and expertise from across the business to strengthen product design, performance and repeatability.

Requirements

  • A Mechanical, Electrical or General Engineering background.
  • Proven experience in Technical Product Management, Product Development or Engineering Project Management.
  • A strong track record of taking products from concept, design and validation through to successful market introduction.
  • Experience creating and managing technical product documentation, specifications, technical files and product data.
  • A solid understanding of structured product development methodologies, project management and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems, ideally within industrial equipment, pumps, process systems, environmental technologies or similar sectors.
  • Experience leading, coaching or mentoring technical teams.
  • Excellent project management, planning and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A solution‑focused mindset and the ability to thrive within a growing SME environment.
  • High levels of organisation, attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Experience within the wastewater, environmental, utilities, process engineering, industrial equipment or related engineering sectors would be highly advantageous.

Benefits
