We are working with a very well established, family run SME based in Shrewsbury. They are the market leader for technical innovations, and they are world renowned for high quality. They operate within large scale product manufacturing such as Tanks and Valve chambers within the Water solutions industry.

In a period of fast growth, they now require a Technical Product Manager to join their Senior Leadership Team. This position exists to strengthen their technical advantage, drive meaningful innovation and ensure every product they offer is something engineers can trust and simply specify. You will help shape the future direction of their products, their solutions, their technical standards and the engineering support they provide, making sure they continue to lead the world for innovations and technical credibility in the industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Product Review and Technical Improvements: Reviewing the full product range in detail and identifying opportunities to make their products far technically advanced beyond their competition in the eyes of consulting engineers (including additional 3rd-party testing, certification etc.). Preparing clear and practical improvement plans for presentation to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Understanding Tank Construction: You will need to develop a strong understanding of laminate construction methods, laminate thicknesses, structural and mechanical principles relating to all tanks etc. This knowledge is essential for verifying existing tank designs and producing bespoke laminate, tank or design solutions.
  • Technical Documentation and Specification Support: Help maintain and improve their market-leading technical documents. Make sure complicated information is made easy for consulting engineers to use and understand. Help answer complicated queries.
  • Design support and innovation across our current range: Support the design of bespoke underground and above-ground systems, in both horizontal and vertical configurations. Collaborate with many teams (sales, production, and clients) to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose and cost-effective. Drive innovation in materials, composite structures, and manufacturing processes, particularly in filament winding technology. Conduct technical analysis, validation, and testing to ensure structural integrity, durability, and regulatory compliance. Contribute to the development of standardised product ranges and modular systems for scalable deployment in the water sector.
  • Driving Innovation and Developing New Products: A key part of your role will be improving existing products and developing entirely new ones that strengthen their technical advantage within the industry. Often, very complex, bespoke systems are required and you will be required to help the sales team translate customer requirements into practical, manufacturable and compliant solutions utilising our current, very adaptive product range. With new water-quality standards and regulations continually being introduced, they have a major opportunity to lead the market with new, technically advanced solutions, strengthening their position as the first choice for consulting engineers.
  • Department Growth and Leadership: Identifying when extra staff are needed. Recruiting and hiring suitable team members. Leading, managing and developing the department. Introducing Structure, Processes and Project Management. Project planning, processes and timelines. Business cases and estimated ROI for major projects.
Requirements:
  • You will need a strong understanding of our manufacturing machinery and processes. Having a complete view of how their products are built is essential.
  • Electrical Competence (Pumping systems, Control panels and alarms, Pollution containment systems, Specialist and bespoke electrical assemblies).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and management skills to be able to establish a Technical Team/Department in the future.
  • A hands-on leader and isn’t just sitting in their office crunching numbers every day – they are happy to get their hands dirty and carry out testing, trouble shoot technical problems on the factory floor etc.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the water, wastewater, or environmental engineering sector is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fluid handling systems, storage solutions, and water treatment processes is advantageous.
  • Experience with composite materials or filament winding is advantageous.
