Shape the Future of Healthcare
Healthcare is changing. The demands on healthcare estates have never been greater. Organisations are rethinking how services are delivered, how estates support clinical transformation, and how investment can create better outcomes for patients, staff, and communities. We're looking for an experienced Strategic Healthcare Architect to help lead that change. This is not a traditional architectural role. It's an opportunity to work at the forefront of healthcare transformation, partnering with NHS Trusts, healthcare providers, investors, and executive teams to develop the strategies, estate plans, and masterplans that will shape healthcare environments for decades to come.
If you're passionate about healthcare, thrive in stakeholder-led environments, and enjoy translating complex clinical and operational challenges into clear strategic direction, we'd like to hear from you.
The Opportunity
As a senior strategic advisor, you'll work directly with healthcare leaders, clinicians, estates teams, and executive stakeholders to define future service models, estate requirements, and investment priorities. You'll lead conversations that influence major healthcare programmes, helping organisations answer critical questions such as:
- What should our estate look like in 3, 5, or 10 years?
- How can our facilities better support changing clinical services?
- Where should future investment be focused?
- How can healthcare environments improve operational performance and patient outcomes?
From estate strategy and service transformation to master planning and stakeholder engagement, you'll be instrumental in turning ambition into deliverable programmes.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading Strategic Estate Planning
- Developing long-term healthcare estate strategies
- Identifying investment priorities and development opportunities
- Supporting estate rationalisation and optimisation programmes
- Translating organisational objectives into practical estate roadmaps
- Driving Healthcare Transformation
- Working alongside clinical and operational leaders to understand future service requirements
- Assessing the estate implications of healthcare transformation initiatives
- Supporting evidence-based planning and strategic decision making
- Engaging Senior Stakeholders
- Facilitating workshops, visioning sessions, and strategic planning exercises
- Building trusted relationships with executive teams, clinicians, and estates leaders
- Helping organisations align stakeholders around a shared vision
- Delivering Strategic Masterplans
- Leading early‑stage healthcare master planning commissions
- Defining development principles, growth opportunities, and long‑term estate frameworks
- Creating robust plans that guide future investment and project delivery
- Supporting Growth and Opportunity Development
- Identifying emerging opportunities across healthcare portfolios
- Contributing to bids, proposals, and strategic business development activities
- Helping clients transform strategic ambitions into funded programmes of work
About You
This role requires more than technical expertise. We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with emotional intelligence, someone who can comfortably engage a Trust Chief Executive one moment and a clinical team the next. You’ll be naturally collaborative, commercially aware, and passionate about improving healthcare environments. Most importantly, you’ll have the credibility and personality to build trust quickly and guide complex conversations with confidence.
The Person
We're looking for someone who is:
- Humble enough to listen first, understand different perspectives, and bring people with them on the journey
- Charismatic enough to command a room, inspire confidence, and build lasting relationships with senior stakeholders
- Credible in both strategic discussions and delivery-focused conversations
- Curious about the future of healthcare and how estates can drive transformation
- Collaborative in their approach, valuing partnership over hierarchy
- Influential without relying on authority, able to bring diverse stakeholder groups together around a shared vision
- Comfortable with ambiguity, able to navigate complex challenges and create clarity where others see obstacles
This is a role for someone who enjoys being at the centre of important conversations and wants to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of healthcare.
Requirements
You’ll likely bring:
- Qualification as an Architect (RIBA Part III or equivalent)
- 10–15+ years’ experience within healthcare architecture, healthcare planning, estate strategy, or strategic advisory
- Significant experience working within NHS and healthcare environments and a strong understanding of how healthcare organisations operate
- A proven track record of delivering healthcare projects from strategy through to implementation, understanding both the operational and practical realities of project delivery
- Deep knowledge of healthcare estate planning, healthcare transformation, and strategic master planning
- Experience engaging with executive teams, clinical leaders, estates professionals, and operational stakeholders
- Strong workshop facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities and develop client relationships
Particularly Valuable Experience
- NHS Trust estate strategy development
- Strategic healthcare master planning
- Healthcare business cases and investment planning
- Clinical strategy or service strategy development
- Working with NHS Trust Boards and Executive Teams
- Large‑scale healthcare transformation programmes
- Leading multidisciplinary teams across both strategic and project delivery stages
Benefits
This is a rare opportunity to move beyond project delivery and become a key influencer in how healthcare organisations evolve. You’ll work on complex, high‑profile healthcare challenges, engage with senior decision‑makers, and help shape environments that directly impact patient care and operational performance. For ambitious healthcare professionals who enjoy combining strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, healthcare knowledge, and architectural expertise, this role offers the chance to make a genuine and lasting impact across the healthcare sector.
