Your role

Are you passionate about Sustainable Investing and in particular Investor Stewardship? Investor stewardship is a core component of UBS Asset Management's fiduciary and sustainable investing approach.

In this role you will:

  • act as a corporate governance subject matter expert, providing independent, high quality analysis on boards, executive remuneration, shareholder rights, capital structures and governance risks across global markets
  • apply deep governance expertise to inform voting decisions, company engagement priorities and investment discussions
  • assess company practices in a global and competitive context, including peer benchmarking and evolving governance and ESG standards
  • lead end to end proxy voting research and execution, ensuring voting decisions are robust, policy aligned and clearly articulated
  • demonstrate strong hands on experience with proxy voting systems, voting workflows and data quality management
  • contribute to the ongoing development and application of UBS Asset Management's global proxy voting policies
  • conduct in depth engagements with senior board members and executive management on governance and material ESG topics
  • engage confidently on complex and sensitive issues, including executive pay, board effectiveness, succession planning and long term strategy
  • integrate broader ESG considerations into engagement activity, including climate, nature, social issues and emerging areas such as AI governance
  • work closely with active and passive investment teams, ensuring stewardship insights are well integrated into investment decision making
  • support portfolio managers and analysts with governance and ESG insights relevant to risk assessment and long term value creation
  • contribute to stewardship reporting and respond to internal and client stewardship related queries
  • help drive innovation in stewardship research and processes, including exploring opportunities to integrate AI and advanced analytics into voting and engagement research
  • contribute to continuous improvement of stewardship frameworks, analytical tools and engagement practices

Your team

We are part of the Stewardship team based in London. This role is designed for a high impact subject matter expert with a proven track record in corporate governance and voting analysis, and strong experience engaging at board and senior executive level. You will contribute directly to voting decisions, stewardship research and company engagement outcomes, working in close partnership with both active and passive investment teams globally.

Your expertise

  • experience in a stewardship, corporate governance, engagement or governance advisory role, ideally within asset management or a recognised governance consultancy
  • strong and demonstrable corporate governance expertise with a clear track record - this is a core requirement for the role
  • proven experience conducting senior level engagements with boards and executive management
  • strong experience with proxy voting systems and proxy voting execution is essential
  • demonstrated experience working within a stewardship function and collaborating effectively with both active and passive investment teams
  • strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex ESG, environmental and strategic issues and distil them into clear, decision-useful conclusions
  • solid ESG foundation, with particular depth on environmental topics, and sufficient governance understanding to support voting and escalation decisions
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • credible, thoughtful and confident engaging with internal stakeholders and external issuers
  • comfortable operating in a high-visibility, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • collaborative, pragmatic and delivery-focused, aligned with UBS's long-term, client-centric culture
  • curious and forward looking, with a genuine interest in innovation and responsible AI adoption

Additional skills and experience (nice to have)

  • sector specialism and/or regional market expertise
  • knowledge of European, Swiss and/or DACH markets
  • understanding of US governance and remuneration practices
  • additional language skills
  • relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CFA) or postgraduate education
