Your role
Do you have extensive experience with structuring alternative investment products? Have you worked for a Big4 or law firm as a tax consultant in the alternative space? Do you want to help us develop new products for our clients and support the alternatives business within Asset Management from a tax perspective?
Responsibilities
- Work closely together with external tax advisors to support Unified Global Assets (UGA) colleagues with the tax structuring and tax due diligence requirements of Fund of Funds investments globally.
- Review and agree the tax due diligence and tax structuring reports delivered by external tax advisors; ensure that all relevant tax findings identified in those tax due diligence reports are reflected properly in side letters to be discussed and agreed with third‑party Fund management teams.
- Work closely with Product Management teams to manage capital calls and distributions to investors in accordance with the applicable tax laws and fund agreements.
- Support the Product Development teams with the tax structuring of new products on both the UGA as well as the Global Real Assets (GRA) side.
- Support GRA with the acquisition and disposition of assets globally.
- Support the various internal teams with all tax related topics for AM's alternative products, including the overview of monthly, quarterly or annual tax compliance obligations of the relevant Funds.
- Manage the tax reporting of certain fund products, if needed (such as German, Swiss and/or Austrian Tax reporting) and ensure that it will be done properly and in time.
- Support the UGA and GRA teams in engagement of external tax advisors and ensure all tax advisory fees are calculated and paid by the relevant Funds, as applicable, in accordance with the concluded agreements.
- Work closely with Product Management to support them in preparing performance reporting for the Funds to ensure that the tax related wording is accurate.
- Assist the Portfolio Managers to ensure that the tax data used in the various financial models are accurate.
- Support the Portfolio Managers and Product Management team with any tax related ad hoc questions.
- Support the implementation of regulatory matters within UGA and GRA in close collaboration with Asset Management Products from time to time.
Your team
You will be working in the Alternatives Tax team (presence in London, New York, Munich, Hong Kong and Amsterdam) and you will be based in London. You will have a small team to lead. In close support to the Head of Tax (based in Amsterdam) as well as in close collaboration with external tax advisors, you will manage the tax structuring and tax due diligence as well tax reporting requirements for a certain portfolio of products. Your main focus will be the fast‑growing UGA business as well as the UK products or mandates, but it is also intended to work in a wider scope of responsibility depending on capacity and experience. It is also intended that you will support the business with the implementation of regulatory changes impacting the Alternatives product shelf. You will be working in a small and dynamic team in Europe, APAC and US and will have strong interaction with the portfolio managers, product development and product management teams, legal and tax professionals and other UBS internal and external advisors across the globe. Ability to work autonomously and being proactive and service oriented is one of your strengths.
Your expertise
- Degree in economics or law and either qualified as a Certified Tax Advisor, Tax Lawyer or Chartered Accountant.
- Strong tax background from any European jurisdiction (e.g. UK, CH, NL, Lux, with a strong preference for the UK), combined with a very good understanding of double tax treaties and international tax principles; ideally with some strong experience with the tax and legal frameworks for alternative fund products (e.g. real estate, infrastructure, private equity, hedge funds, private credit etc).
- Strong project management skills and interest in/ experience with regulatory changes.
- Extensive experience as a tax senior manager/director working for a Big Four or in the tax team of a big law firm, but also relevant in‑house positions, ideally with focus on alternative funds.
- Very good MS‑Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and AI experience.
- Fluent English skills in oral and written form are a must; any further language (e.g. Spanish, German or French) is a plus.
