The Head of Production is responsible for leading and optimising the end-to-end delivery of website projects across discovery, design, content population, and front-end development. This role ensures that all production outputs are delivered to the highest quality, on time, and within budget, while continuously evolving processes, resourcing models, and delivery frameworks to support scale and efficiency. This is an extremely hands-on role, with responsibility for a number of teams as well as taking on key projects to support delivery. As a senior leader within the business, the Head of Production will bridge creative, technical, and operational teams—driving alignment, accountability, and performance across all production functions.
Key Deliverables:
- Production Leadership & Delivery
- Oversee the full production lifecycle of website projects, from discovery, design handover through to launch.
- Ensure seamless collaboration between discovery, design, content, and front-end development teams.
- Drive consistent, high-quality delivery across all client projects.
- Implement best practices for production workflows, QA, and deployment.
- Act as point of escalation where necessary for client or production issues.
- Perform Project Management duties where needed for larger clients, and to support projects as part of client escalations.
- Resource Management & Capacity Planning
- Own resource planning across all production disciplines, ensuring optimal utilisation.
- Balance workloads across teams to meet delivery timelines without compromising quality.
- Forecast resource requirements based on pipeline and business growth.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to align resourcing with commercial priorities.
- Process Optimisation & Scalability
- Evaluate and continuously improve production processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Lead the rollout of new workflows, systems, and operational frameworks.
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, implementing scalable solutions.
- Champion automation and standardisation where appropriate.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor team leads across project management, design, content, and front-end development.
- Establish clear performance metrics and accountability structures.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on quality and delivery.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of production teams.
- Quality Assurance & Standards
- Define and uphold production quality standards across all outputs.
- Ensure consistency in build quality, responsiveness, accessibility, and CMS usability.
- Work closely with QA functions to maintain rigorous testing and sign-off processes.
- Stakeholder Management
- Act as the key production point of contact for internal leadership and client services teams.
- Provide clear visibility on timelines, risks, and delivery status.
- Work closely with other departments within the business to ensure delivery alignment, including sales and consultancy teams.
- Support pre-sales and scoping discussions with production expertise.
- Align production capabilities with client expectations and contractual commitments.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a senior production or delivery leadership role within a digital or website agency.
- Previous Project Management and/or Marketing Management experience in a Digital Agency environment or a large company would be highly beneficial.
- Expert knowledge of the end-to-end process of website development, including web design, content population (CMS), and front-end development.
- Demonstrable experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale delivery pipelines.
- Expertise in resource planning, forecasting, and utilisation management.
- Experience implementing and scaling production processes and operational frameworks.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance quality, time, and cost.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with modern web technologies, CMS platforms, and delivery tools.
