The Facilities Manager (Maritime Infrastructure) is responsible for leading the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of maritime facilities and associated assets. This role ensures that all infrastructure, including piers, vesselside equipment, office environments, and welfare spaces, are maintained to the highest standards while supporting operational delivery and customer experience.
The role combines strategic planning with hands-on operational oversight, including asset lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, contractor management, and stakeholder engagement across a complex maritime environment.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Leadership & Compliance
- Lead the Maritime Infrastructure function, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and safety management systems.
- Oversee day-to-day operations to meet contractual, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Ensure all processes, procedures, and risk assessments are documented, implemented, and maintained.
- Act as a designated responsible person for relevant operational and safety frameworks.
- Asset & Facilities Management
- Manage all maritime and facilities assets, including piers, access equipment, office locations, and welfare facilities.
- Develop and implement preventative and reactive maintenance programmes.
- Oversee asset lifecycle planning, including upgrades, refurbishments, and new developments.
- Ensure consistent standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation across all locations.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, including forecasting and long-term investment planning.
- Prepare business cases and manage procurement processes in line with company policy.
- Control non-staff expenditure and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Manage contracts and supplier performance to ensure value, quality, and compliance.
- Stakeholder & Contractor Management
- Act as the key point of contact for internal departments, landlords, tenants, and external partners.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with third-party contractors and service providers.
- Ensure clear communication channels and service delivery standards are consistently met.
- Regulatory & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements relating to maritime infrastructure.
- Lead on permits, licences, and statutory approvals (e.g. river works and environmental consents).
- Support and maintain Environmental Management Systems and sustainability initiatives.
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency.
- Lead infrastructure-related projects from planning through to delivery.
- Provide operational input into the design of new facilities and upgrades.
- Define and monitor KPIs to drive performance and service improvements.
- Promote innovation and the adoption of new technologies to enhance operations and customer experience.
- Team Management
- Recruit, manage, and develop a high-performing team.
- Define training requirements and ensure all team members are competent and compliant.
- Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and safety-first culture.
- Support HR processes including performance management, investigations, and disciplinary matters.
- Proven experience in facilities or infrastructure management, ideally within a maritime, transport, or regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of health & safety and regulatory compliance.
- Experience managing budgets, contracts, and suppliers.
- Ability to lead teams and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering projects and driving operational improvements.
- Understanding of environmental and sustainability practices is desirable.
