Position Description: Advanced Practice Provider - UAB Women’s Reproductive Health

The following APP certifications may be considered for this role: Women's Health Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior OB experience is required for Family NPs.

Work schedule: Full-time, benefited. Day shift: Monday - Friday (8am-5pm). Approximately 6 weekends and 2 holidays per year.

Differential Pay:

  • Weekend shift differential: $50/shift

CME allowance: Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000.00 CME allowance. This can be used for recertification, applicable fees, CME courses, etc. that occur after a new employee's start date.

The UAB Division of Women’s Reproductive Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider, preferably a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, to provide obstetric and gynecologic care. Functions include:

  • History and Physical exam for routine obstetric patients and well-woman gynecologic visits
  • Evaluation and management of GYN and OB complaints
  • Collaboration with Obstetricians in management of postpartum patients throughout their hospital stay
  • Perform procedures including endometrial and vulvar biopsy, IUD removal and insertions, and Nexplanon insertion and removal

General Responsibilities:

  • To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician.
  • To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient.
  • To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed.
  • To perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
  • To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient’s medical record and social data.
  • To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
  • To coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulates and implements comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions.
  • Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  • Maintains records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and other health care providers.
  • Provides assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed.
  • Serves as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nursing with a Women's Health NP or Family NP certification required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
  • Prior OB experience is required for Family NPs.
  • Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
