The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is undergoing exciting changes and expansion with the introduction of a host of new courses, including Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeships and the Masters in Global Public Health. The School is at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in.

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy Placements to complement our existing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and successful team at the University of Essex to enhance your skills and experience in this field. This is a fixed-term, part-time post working 21.6 hours per week (0.6 FTE). Applications are welcomed for fewer hours. Please specify in your application the hours of work for which you are applying and whether at Grade 8 or Grade 9.

It is expected that you would assist the Subject Lead, providing practical support to the placements team, undertaking teaching and assessment duties where needed, as well as focusing on allocation and preparation of students for their clinical placements and support for students and their practice educators during placements. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to planning for developing our placement related teaching for future years and to work on expanding placement capacity.

Applicants at Grade 8 should demonstrate experience of working independently in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways. Applicants at Grade 9 should demonstrate substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways.

Candidates should hold a relevant doctoral level degree or equivalent professional experience or be close to completion or equivalent professional experience or practice together with Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. Additionally, you should hold HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist or an equivalent EU / International registration or ability to gain.
