We're expanding our subcontract network and looking for experienced surveyors to take on arboricultural surveying along overhead line routes and utility corridors. If you're already working in utility arb, or you're an experienced surveyor ready to specialise, we'd like to hear from you. We currently have positions available in: Bristol and Avon, Devon and Cornwall, Birmingham, Hampshire, Republic of Ireland. Immediate starts available for the right people.

About the job

You’ll be surveying trees and vegetation adjacent to overhead power lines and utility infrastructure, assessing clearance distances, species, condition, and risk, and making works recommendations for clearance, removal, or cyclical management. From your survey output you’ll create work packs ready for delivery teams to execute, and consent the works directly with landowners and occupiers, securing the agreements needed to get crews on site. Field records are captured digitally to client-specified formats, and you’ll work to network operator specifications including National Grid, NGED, SPEN, SSEN, ESB, and equivalent. As a subcontractor on our network, you’ll be driving your own productivity. The more ground you cover and the more packs you turn around, the more you earn. We give you the systems, the diary, and the support to make that achievable.

Recruiting directly to UA5. No middlemen, no third parties. You’ll be engaged directly by us, with rates agreed transparently and paid in full. Strong earning potential, £300+ per day achievable for a decent, effective surveyor working a full diary with us. Rates are structured as day rates, kilometre rates, or a combination, agreed directly with you. A genuinely full diary. We don't bring people onto the network and leave them waiting. If we engage you, we have work for you. Programmes built around you. We plan around your geography and availability, not the other way around. Digital‑first field systems. Modern data capture, real‑time visibility, client‑ready outputs. No paper‑based chaos, no chasing missing records. Responsive commercial management. Clear briefings, fast issue resolution, and people on the other end of the phone who understand the work. Room to grow with us. As the business scales, so does the scope and volume available to the network.

Preferred skills

  • Demonstrable experience in utility arboricultural surveying (overhead lines, DNO, or transmission network)
  • Experience on National Grid, NGED, SPEN, SSEN, or ESB vegetation management frameworks
  • Previous work within DNO wayleave or easement constraints
  • Lantra, ISA, or Arboricultural Association accreditation
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to manage a personal survey programme to deadline
  • Professional indemnity insurance and self‑employed registrations (or willingness to obtain)
