You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER in the Production Facilities and Equipment Shop (Code 900F), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Responsibilities:
- You will prepare material request forms as necessary, indicate status including delivery dates and location of material, occasionally contact suppliers to locate needed material and secure prices.
- You will identify effective application of trade resources, efficient utilization of manpower, material, equipment and special tools needed to accomplish specified work tasks.
- You will maintain files of manufacturers’ catalogs, parts lists, material specifications and similar documents.
- You will procure additional items needed due to unforeseen problems and procure special material needed to complete the job.
- You will trigger material delivery and will be required to understand material system applications in order to pre-stage material required for work packages.
Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation and chemicals).
- Must participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
- Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

- Ability to read and interpret TGIs, drawings, process instructions, specifications, corporate nuclear power manuals, technical manuals and standards, and work request documents.
- Ability to control the flow of materials to and from various production/industrial shops.
- Ability to analyze work plans, design plans, availability of information and/or man‑time estimates.
- Ability to schedule work in various production shops or outside industrial work sites and eliminate backlogs.
- Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
