You will serve as a SUPERVISORY SHIPYARD PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT in the Welding Shop (Code 926), Production Resources Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities
- You will provide both technical and administrative supervision to subordinate staff, including planning work, setting and adjusting short‑term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
- You will analyze, evaluate and adjust shop manpower resources, work operations, equipment, and facilities against current and future scheduled work requirements.
- You will actively and aggressively participate in shipyard decisions involving acceptance or rejection of new or emergent work.
- You will identify anomalies, both within and outside your specific shop cognizant area, that could negatively affect overall shipyard performance and work execution.
- You will gather data and analyze it to determine quality, safety, cost, schedule and behaviour problems in the shop and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective action.
- You will be responsible for evaluating shop performance from a cost‑center perspective, understanding and evaluating revenue streams, and managing the shop in a cost‑effective manner.

Qualifications
- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
- Experience serving as the highest technical authority for all trade matters relating to production planning, processes, and techniques for the trades of the shop.
- Experience managing the shop’s personnel, facilities, equipment, and resources, and coordinating intra‑ and inter‑shop activities to meet established schedules and quality control standards.
- Experience preparing and submitting proposed budgets for future fiscal‑year demands.
- Experience utilizing comprehensive knowledge of all phases of nuclear and non‑nuclear surface or submarine ship repair and overhaul, and shipyard work operations, coupled with detailed knowledge of all aspects of the cognizant trade operations.
- Experience applying supervisory responsibilities such as Employee Equal Opportunities (EEO), conducting investigations, submitting hiring actions, and adhering to merit‑system principles.
