You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) in the Quality Assurance Manager (Code 900Q), Production Department Analysis and Business Manager (Code 900A), Production Resources Department (Code 901) and Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities
- Conduct internal programs, processes, and ship overhaul audits to identify quality problems and opportunities for improvements.
- Investigate equipment/systems failures to identify responsible parties, root causes and corrective actions needed to prevent recurrence.
- Study work processes by collecting, sorting, grouping and analyzing process data for quality trends.
- Review training materials and assist in special quality assurance training classes for employees of the shops.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly reports such as process quality indicators and rework identification.
- Recommend quality improvements to shop management based on lessons learned from audits, investigations, analysis and special study results.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct‑deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. Time‑in‑grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense, appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code § 3326.
- Male applicants born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This is a bargaining‑unit position.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
- Experience applying audit, investigative and analysis methods and techniques.
- Experience applying quality assurance concepts, principles, and methodology to develop an effective shipyard quality assurance program.
- Experience applying knowledge of basic ship types, configurations and systems.
- Experience analyzing results on a cumulative basis to identify quality trends.
