The Chief Nurse of Education functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor within the Education & Learning Resources (ELR) service, leveraging a wide range of experience and leadership ability.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care, as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS).
- Manage and provide direct supervision of select staff responsible for various education programs throughout the healthcare system, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards.
- Conduct comprehensive education needs assessments and oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of staff and patient education activities to meet identified needs.
- Ensure the integration and application of the Donna Wright competency model into competency activities for all patient care areas, promoting continuous improvement and professional development.
- Serve as the Designated Learning Officer (DLO) and Chief of Nursing education as required, to provide seamless leadership in employee training and education.
- Collaborate with VHA's Employee Education System (EES) to ensure compliance with educational requirements, including mandatory training, Talent Management System (TMS) usage, availability of learning resources, and all Veteran Affairs Central Office (VACO) reporting related to nursing education.
- Act as a backup for multiple educational programs, ensuring continuity and effectiveness in the absence of primary program managers.
- Promote and support a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and evidence-based practice within the healthcare system, enhancing the quality of care provided to Veterans.
