Job Description
The Senior Corporate Counsel role is to act as a legal adviser with a focus on fintech/payments products.
Responsibilities
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation – draft, review, and negotiate complex technology, commercial, and reseller agreements; ensure contract terms align with business objectives, industry standards, U.
Bank policies, and legal requirements; lead negotiations; document contract decisions; drive efficiencies; calibrate guidance based on deal criticality, revenue impact, and strategic importance.
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation – identify and evaluate legal, commercial, and operational risks in product design, development, deployment, and contracting; ensure alignment with contracts, enterprise risk frameworks, third‑party risk management, and regulatory expectations; manage escalations and support leadership decision‑making.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration – partner with product, compliance, risk, operations and other teams to embed legal considerations into product development; evaluate regulatory, contractual, and operational readiness; support go‑to‑market preparation, compliance reviews, and launch readiness; manage outside counsel.
- Monitoring & Thought Leadership – monitor emerging laws, regulations, and industry standards; track advancements in technologies; advise product and business leaders on legal implications of new trends, innovations, and regulatory expectations.
- Additional Responsibilities – assist senior legal leadership with special projects; develop and refine templates, playbooks, contracting standards, and legal guidance to improve consistency and efficiency.
Qualifications
Legal qualification in the UK with a minimum of 7 years post‑qualification experience; practical experience within Europe; experience as corporate counsel with focus on technology product development, launch, complex technology and commercial agreements, reseller or distribution agreements, intellectual property, privacy, data usage, information security, and third‑party/vendor contracting.
- Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with payment services, global merchant acquiring, alternative payment types, mobile wallets, fraud and security products, financial services regulation, and AI, including agentic AI.
- Experience supporting product teams in a regulated financial services or fintech environment.
Skills & Disposition
- Strong ability to identify legal issues and provide practical, business‑oriented solutions.
- Significant experience drafting and negotiating strategic and complex technology agreements, including reseller arrangements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to distill complex concepts for non‑lawyers.
- Strong client management, diplomacy, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to lead projects, drive change, and influence decision‑making.
