As **DevOps Team Leader**, you will drive automation, reliability, and scalability across Opayo's high-volume payment platforms. This role ensures seamless delivery of applications through Development, Test, and Production environments using modern Continuous Delivery practices. Operating in a 24/7, mission-critical environment, you will lead a team focused on maintaining system resilience, accelerating deployments, and enabling innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain and support Opayo applications (Payments In/Out) using advanced monitoring tools and custom scripts. Proactively detect, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to meet stringent SLAs.
  • Technical Leadership: Remain hands-on (approx. 80% technical) while guiding team priorities and workload. Act as the primary technical escalation point and shape technology strategy. Drive adoption of modern DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated patching.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Set clear objectives, review progress, and manage performance. Recruit, mentor, and upskill engineers to build a high-performing, collaborative team. Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Influence: Partner with Development, Infrastructure, and Security teams to align DevOps initiatives with organisational goals. Champion automation and modernisation to reduce risk and accelerate delivery.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Expertise in monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog).
  • Proven experience with automation/configuration tools (Jenkins, Gitlab and ArgoCD).
  • Background in high-availability, high-transaction production environments.
  • Experience managing and developing technical teams.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of payment gateway technologies and compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI DSS).
Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
Key Metrics
  • Maintain system uptime in line with SLAs.
  • Ensure all releases follow defined CI/CD processes.
  • Active participation in on-call rotation.
