We are seeking a proactive and motivated Laboratory Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, start- up environment to join U-Ploid\’s Operations team. The Laboratory Manager will work cross-functionally and will be a major contributor to the strategic development and shaping of the company. This position involves managing and overseeing all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring smooth laboratory functions and health and safety compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing laboratory infrastructure and processes and will be comfortable collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a purpose-driven company at the forefront of reproductive health innovation. The candidate will be joining an early-stage biotechnology company, which means there will be the opportunity to gain experience in multiple aspects of company development. Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily laboratory operations and act as the primary point of contact for laboratory logistics. Lead health and safety and environmental best practices within the laboratory, ensuring all work is carried out to the highest standards of quality and compliance. Maintain and author laboratory safety documentation, ensuring all documents are up-to-date, accessible, and clearly communicated. Manage laboratory inventory and oversee stock control of consumables, reagents, and materials. Arrange the procurement of laboratory consumables, equipment, and materials by communicating with relevant team members and external providers. Oversee sample management of human biological samples in accordance with current legislation and support internal audits and process documentation. Coordinate the servicing and calibration of laboratory equipment with external engineers and service providers. Supervise laboratory waste disposal, including hazardous and clinical waste streams, in accordance with current legislation and environmental best practices. Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or equivalent experience. Experience and knowledge in health & safety and laboratory compliance standards in an industry or academic setting. Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with other team members and external stakeholders. Highly proactive and adaptable with the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong teamwork skills, fostering collaboration across teams and with external stakeholders. Flexible and solutions-orientated approach to work, ability to support colleagues and prioritize tasks based on shifting company priorities. Industrial or Biotechnology work experience in a laboratory operations role or equivalent. Experience in laboratory inventory and stock control systems. Knowledge of procurement procedures and laboratory equipment commissioning. Desire for continuous learning and professional growth, eager to develop new skills in alignment with the company’s growth.
