Are you an experienced workshop professional ready to take ownership of a busy fleet operation?
We’re looking for a Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our Ibstock workshop, supporting a commercial van fleet of over 120 vehicles alongside a smaller HGV fleet of 15+ vehicles. This is a hands‑on management role combining workshop leadership, fleet planning, administration, stock control and supplier management. You’ll make sure vehicles, tools, parts and people are organised effectively so the fleet stays safe, compliant and operational.
You’ll lead a supportive workshop team including qualified mechanics and a workshop assistants, while working closely with the Transport Manager, Fleet Administrator and wider operations team.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Take overall responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the workshop, ensuring work is planned, prioritised and completed efficiently.
- Plan and coordinate servicing, repairs, MOTs, inspections and breakdown work across the van and HGV fleet to minimise downtime.
- Manage and support the workshop team, allocating jobs, monitoring workloads and maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
- Oversee new van kit‑outs, de‑kits and vehicle preparation, including racking, electrics, branding, tools and equipment.
- Manage parts and stock ordering, workshop consumables, tools and PPE, maintaining suitable stock levels while controlling unnecessary spend.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships, obtain quotes, place orders, check deliveries and resolve shortages or incorrect parts.
- Complete workshop administration including job records, purchase orders, invoices, service schedules, inspection paperwork and maintenance records.
- Work closely with the Transport Manager and Fleet Administrator to keep fleet records accurate and ensure DVSA, manufacturer and company requirements are met.
- Manage a clean, safe, organised and efficient workshop, including tool control, stock areas, waste management and general housekeeping.
What You’ll Need:
- Strong previous experience in a vehicle, fleet or commercial workshop environment, ideally with vans, LCVs and/or HGVs.
- Previous experience supervising or managing a workshop team and coordinating day‑to‑day workloads.
- Good practical mechanical knowledge across servicing, diagnostics, brakes, suspension, electrics and general vehicle repair.
- Confidence with workshop administration, stock control and parts ordering, with good attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence essential.
- A Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent motor vehicle qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience using fleet, workshop, maintenance or stock‑management software is preferred.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to manage suppliers, costs, purchasing and vehicle downtime effectively.
- Clear communication, strong organisation and a practical, hands‑on leadership style.
